Job Posting for Director of Children and Youth Ministries

 

Covenant Presbyterian Church (PCUSA), located in the vibrant college town of Athens, Georgia, is seeking a Director of Children and Youth Ministries. In continuing Christ’s ministry, Covenant reflects the “good news” of God’s grace through public worship, education, fellowship, and outreach in and with the Athens community and the world. Our children and youth are at the heart of our church, and we seek to provide vibrant, intentional ministries for our children, youth, and their families. We believe these ministries are vital to the well being of the larger church family. We feel that this deeply relational ministry can be successful through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, informed planning, trained leaders, supportive congregations, and reliable funding.

Status: Full-Time, starting July 1, 2017
Salary: $30,000 (plus benefits) with bachelor’s degree and 0-2 years experience; higher base salary to be negotiated with additional years experience and/or advanced degree

Qualifications

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree, Christian education experience preferred
  • Rich history in the life of the church and love of Christ
  • Desire and passion to nurture children and youth in their Christian faith
  • Strong communication and relational skills
  • Possesses an enthusiastic and flexible team approach while working with children, parents, and staff
  • Acceptance of a progressive theology that expresses an open, inclusive nature of God’s grace in the world

Ministry with Youth (grades 6 – 12)

  • Mentor, counsel, and direct youth through their faith formation at Covenant Presbyterian Church. This shall include leadership, in accordance with goals and objectives established by the pastor and Christian Education Ministry team, in the following programs:
    • Sunday evening youth group
    • Wednesday evening youth programming
    • Friday after school program
    • Sunday School programming/supervision
    • Youth conferences, mission trips, and retreats
  • Cultivate friendships with and among youth through nontraditional programming
  • Encourage youth involvement and leadership in Covenant’s ministries

Ministry with Children (grades kindergarten – 5)

  • Plan/coordinate programming for children that shall include leadership, in cooperation with pastors and the Christian Education Ministry Team, in the following programs:
    • Sunday School
    • Wednesday evening programming
    • Summer vacation bible school
    • Additional opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship

Administrative Responsibilities

  • Co-chair Christian Education meetings and attend other relevant committee meetings
  • Communicate with parents and congregation members about all children and youth programming
  • Oversee implementation of Covenant’s Child Protection Policy
