As our March 12, 2016 Food Distribution approaches, we celebrate the first anniversary of FEAST Eastside Mobile Food Pantry Ministry! In partnership with the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia, five area churches — Cornerstone, Covenant, Green Acres Baptist, Milledge Avenue Baptist, St. Gregory The Great Episcopal — planned and executed 4 mobile food pantry distributions, serving approximately 800 neighbors 20 tons of food costing a mere $350 per distribution. An average of 60 volunteers per distribution served our community of neighbors who came from 26 different zip codes, but mostly from 30605 which is our target group. By end of 2015, The University of Georgia’s Christian Campus Ministry joined our faithful caring volunteers.
On these Saturdays our gathering of volunteers and neighbors, some with heavy hearts and others with joyful spirits, come to get to know one another in a place where everyone is always welcome. Thanks be to God for the wholeness of life we experience when the household of faith gathers to worship, to serve, to learn and to play.
Every quarterly distribution needs volunteers! At a typical distribution volunteers need to arrive as early as 7:00 a.m., with the distribution itself beginning at 9 a.m. for approximately 200 people. Things wrap up around 10:30 a.m. If you are interested in participating in FEAST distributions, please look for sign-up sheets in the hallway every quarter. For more information contact Ed Ralph or Mark Harper. Let us pray for God’s blessing on this ecumenical effort in our community!
