Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to changing lives by helping deserving families build a simple, decent, affordable home.  Habitat homeowners work alongside volunteers to build their own homes, and they pay the cost of construction with an affordable, zero-interest mortgage. Volunteers do virtually every task involved in home construction, from framing to roofing to drywall, trim, painting, and landscaping.  Professionals on-site provide training and supervision, so that volunteers do things that they never imagined being able to do (although no one is ever pressured to do anything that they are uncomfortable doing).  Volunteers from Covenant do periodic workdays, almost always on Saturdays, with Athens Area Habitat or Madison County Habitat.  Lunch and tools are provided, and volunteers come away feeling tired and blessed.
